Ethiopia set to substitute wheat imports within four years
Addis Ababa, April 20, 2019 (FBC) –The Ministry of Agriculture has set a target of becoming fully wheat self-sufficient over the next four years.
This was revealed at a consultative meeting on the role of scholars in Ethiopian agricultural transformation held at ECA hall today.
In his remark, Minister of Agriculture, Oumer Hussien, said several works have been started to modernize Ethiopia’s agricultural system and boost production through employing technology.
“We are open to use recommendations from scholars,” he said, adding “our target is to substitute wheat imports within the next four years.”
State Minister of Agriculture, Sani Redi, for his part said preparations have been made to harvest more than 374 million quintals of produce in this production season.
About 400 scholars and agricultural experts attended the event.
