Ethiopian Athletics Federation calls on IAAF to reconsider decision to cancel 5000m race from Diamond League
Addis Ababa, March 14, 2019 (FBC) – The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has called on the International Association of Athletic Federation (IAAF) to reconsider the decisions it has made recently in Doha, Qatar.
The IAAF Council decided the 2020 IAAF Diamond League to include only 24 disciplines (12 male & 12 female) that will run across the 12 meetings and the final, with the longest distance track race being the 3000m.
“The decision is a great shock to our federation,” said EAF in a statement it issued today. The decision “didn’t consider the opinion of member federation,” it added.
The federation also opposed IAAF’s decision to make the 3000m the longest distance track race in the 2020 IAAF Diamond League.
“…10000m was canceled and now 5000m, which is unfair to countries like ours who are very competitive in long distance running” it said.
The federation finally called upon the association to reconsider its decision to cancel 5000m race from the Diamond League.
