Ethiopia drafts new policy to address challenges in mining sector
Addis Ababa, March 18, 2019 (FBC) –The Council of Minerals Affairs of Ethiopia is drafting a 20-year new policy that would help address the challenges in the mining and petroleum sectors.
The Council today held consultation with stakeholders to enrich the drafted policy.
Participants on the occasion blamed previous regulations for focusing only on major minerals.
During the discussion, it was indicated that the contribution of the mining sector to the country’s economy is negligible because of lack of awareness and value addition as well as low mining investment.
Thus, the new policy aims to boost revenue, generate more jobs, and encourage investors by addressing the challenges in the sector, it was stated.
