Ethio-Tunisia Joint Ministerial Commission meeting opens in Tunis

Addis Ababa, March 14, 2019 (FBC) – The 6th Ethio-Tunisia Joint Ministerial Commission meeting opened in Tunis, Tunisia today.

In her opening remarks, State Minister Mrs. Hirut Zemene said Ethiopia and Tunisia share historical diplomatic ties, recognizing Emperor Haile-Selassie I and President Habib Bourguiba’s vital role for the inception of the OAU.

Mrs. Hirut took note of the comprehensive reforms underway in Ethiopia, further noting its positive contributions to the Horn of Africa region.

Secretary of State to the Minister for Foreign Affairs in Charge of Economic Diplomacy of Tunisia, Hatem Ferjani expressed his profound condolence over the tragic accident of flight ET-302.

Mr. Hatem Ferjani commended Ethiopia’s efforts in the maintenance of regional peace and security.
While noting the strong political and diplomatic ties between the two countries, he underlined the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship in economic and social frontiers.

He also extended congratulations to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu on his appointment as Head of the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON).

The two sides have also concluded the signing of cooperation agreements on a range of areas including tourism, culture, industrial technology, women’s affairs and capacity building packages.

Ethiopia and Tunisia established diplomatic relations in 1966, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
