ECX traded 14 bln birr worth agricultural products in six months
Addis Ababa, February 13, 2019 (FBC) – The Ethiopia Commodity Exchange (ECX) traded 14 billion birr worth agricultural products in the first half of this Ethiopian fiscal year (July-December 2018).
According to a press release sent to FBC yesterday, the Exchange managed to trade a total of 256 metric tonnes of coffee, sesame, and beans.
Coffee generated the lion’s share of the income by constituting 87% of it, followed by sesame at 12%, the release stated.
The volume of coffee, sesame, and beans traded in six months has shown a 17% decrease compared to the same period last fiscal year mainly due to supply shortage and instability, the release added.
The Exchange also started trading soybeans and chickpeas.
