President Sahle-Work says Ethiopia committed to women’s peace, security agendas
Addis Ababa, January 28, 2019 (FBC) –President Sahle-Work Zewde said Ethiopia is firmly committed to women’s peace and security agendas.
President made the remark at the official opening ceremony of the 3rd United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial preparatory meeting held at UNECA conference hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, today.
In her opening remark, the President underscored the commitment of Ethiopia to enhance the participation of women in the peace keeping of missions of the United Nations, according to office of the President.
“Ethiopia has deployed more than 600 women soldiers in the peace keeping missions of the UN,” she told the participants
She also emphasized that any peace keeping mission should give priority for the protection of women and other vulnerable groups.
She also urged mainstreaming of women participation in peace keeping missions require effective coordination among the stakeholders.
