Irish PM visits Mai-Aini refugee camp in Tigray
Addis Ababa, January 11, 2019 (FBC) –Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkaris today visited the Mai-Aini refugee camp in Tigray regional state.
Mai Aini is home to more than 60,000 refugees from Eritrea.
The Taoiseach visited four Irish Aid-funded projects in the Tigray , including Wukro Veterinary Clinic, which treats camels, cattle, sheep, goats and donkeys, and provides hundreds of thousands of vaccines every year.
PM Varadkar also visited a nearby school and the Kawaneet health post focusing on reducing infant mortality, an example of the 45 such posts in Tigray helped by Irish Aid.
As part of his trip to the northern parts of Ethiopia, he also visited the UNESCO site at Lalibela, Amhara regional state.
The Prime Minister described visiting the site as a life’s ambition.
