Ministry identifies seven corridors for irrigation
Addis Ababa, November 9, 2018 (FBC) –The Ministry of Water, Irrigation, and Energy (MoWIE) said it has identified seven corridors that are suitable for irrigation in various regional states.
Dr Engineer Sileshi Bekele told Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC) today that works were underway to widely engage in irrigation development this Ethiopian fiscal year.
He said a total of 2 billion birr has been put aside to build the development corridors enough to irrigate 32,000 hectares of land.
According to Bizuneh Tolcha, public relations and communication director at the ministry, Amhara, Tigray, Oromia, Afar, SNNP and Benishangul Gumuz are among the regional states where the development corridors are identified.
The development corridors would help to harvest thrice a year, he added.
According to him, his ministry has planned to begin the construction of 10 irrigation development projects with close to 8.6 billion birr.
