Judo experts organize tournament in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa, November 17, 2018 (FBC) – Judo experts from the International Judo Federation, in collaboration with the Juventus Judo Club, organized an interclub Judo tournament here in Addis Ababa.
The tournament organized under the slogan, “Judo for Ethiopians” from Grand Master Johannes Daxbacher (IJF), is designed to help junior and senior Judo students gain valuable competition experience, and to allow instructors to evaluate their students in a competitive atmosphere.
The Embassy of Japan in Ethiopia provides this event with nominal support.
Mr. Daisuke Matsunaga, Ambassador of Japan to Ethiopia, senior Japanese and German residential diplomats, Judo fans from other countries residing in Addis and Ethiopian Judo practitioners will attend the tournament.
Judo is a martial art born in Japan 120 years ago, and is now one of the most popular events in the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Judo disciplines the body and mind and as such, contributes to the creation of a healthy society.
Recently, Japan’s Solidarity of International Judo Education provided 100 tatami mats to promote Judo in Ethiopia for 2020, the year when the Tokyo Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games take place.
