IGAD will do all it can for success of South Sudan peace deal

Addis Ababa, September 12, 2018 (FBC) –Ethiopia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Workneh Gebeyehu, said the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) will do all it can for the success of South Sudan peace deal.

He made the remark at the opening of the 65th Extra-Ordinary session of the IGAD Council of Ministers in Addis Ababa today.

Present at the meeting were Foreign Ministers of, Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, and Uganda, as well as representatives of the AU Commission, the UN, and IGAD partners.

Stating that the South Sudan’s peace process is progressing well, Dr Workneh commended efforts of the conflicting parties to resolve their problem.

He reiterated that the IGAD, in partnership with other stakeholders, will continue to work of the success of the peace process.

The diplomatic relations and friendship restored between Ethiopia and Eritrea as well as Eritrea and Djibouti has been creating favorable conditions for the development and tranquility of the regional, he added.

IGAD Assembly of Heads of State and Government will also hold its 33rd regular session this afternoon.
