Trade Mark East Africa to open office in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa, August 23, 2018 (FBC) – State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Professor Afework Kassu and Mr. Frank Matsaer, Executive Director of Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) signed a host country agreement today.

TMEA is a non-profit organization working to help the rapid advance of integration, trade and competitiveness of the East African Community member countries.

During the signing ceremony, Prof. Afework said Ethiopia is in the middle of socio-economic reforms which demand regional economic integration, adding “infrastructural connectivity is vital in this regard”.

To make such initiatives effective, he added, harmonized regulatory mechanisms are needed.
Prof. Afework further took note of the important economic activities TMEA is doing in East Africa.

He also commended the decision of TMEA officials to open office in Ethiopia, addi g that his government would extend support to such effect.

Mr. Frank Matsaer on his part appreciated the support his organization received from the Ethiopian side and remarked that his organization would work to speed up the movement of goods and to reduce the cost of trade in East Africa.

“The Potential for Africa to trade with itself is massive,” he added.
