Ethiopia sends condolences over death of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan
Annan was close friend of Ethiopia and his death is a great loss for Africa and the world
Addis Ababa, August 18, 2018 (FBC) –The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia has expressed its sadness at the death of former secretary general of the United Nations Kofi Annan.
“Annan was close friend of Ethiopia and his death is a great loss for Africa and the world,” the Ministry said in a statement sent to FBC today.
“History will remember him for what he contributed for global peace, sustainable development, and rule of law,” the statement added.
The 80-year-old passed away peacefully today after a short illness, according to foundation named after him.
He served as the seventh UN Secretary General for almost 10 years from 1997 to 2006.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2001 for helping to revitalise the international body.
