154 armed forces members in Amhara Region embrace government’s call for Peace

Addis Ababa, December 17, 2024 (FMC) – A total of 154 members of armed groups in Kelala Woreda, South Wollo Zone, Amhara Region, have accepted the government’s call for peace.

Originally operating in the Licho area of Kelala and active in the surrounding regions of Aba Gascha, Rima, and Gorenji, these militants acknowledged the detrimental effects of their previous actions on the community.

They stated, “We have accepted the government’s call for peace, realizing that the wrong path we have taken is worsening the problems of our people and is not helpful to ensure peace.”

The Amhara Region Prosperity Party branch office noted that these armed groups had been causing significant instability, disrupting societal peace. The militants expressed their dedication to utilizing the opportunity for peace to make amends with the community and to support government initiatives. They also conveyed their gratitude for the warm reception they received following their commitment to peace.
